Two Jurassic Ammonite (Parkinsonia) Fossils - France
This is a very beautiful association of Parkinsonia ammonites from Fresney, France. These Jurassic-aged ammonites are still partially embedded in the rock they were found in and are naturally associated with two belemnite fossils and an additional partial ammonite fossil. The base of the rock has been cut flat for presentation purposes.
The specimen weighs just over 10 lbs, measures 8.7 x 8 x 5.2", and the largest ammonite is 5.3" wide.

Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
