1 1/2" Silver Iridescent Ammonite Fossils

These are beautiful, 110 million year old silver iridescent ammonite fossils from the Mahajanga Province of Madagascar. The photos are representative of the ammonites you will receive. They range from 1 1/2" to 2" in diameter. Many have some imperfections like rock still attached to them or some shipped shell, but still are quite attractive. Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
