This is a beautiful, polished stone twist made of jasper from Madagascar. These twists have a very unique character, as the patterns and colors are so different between them. A mixture of grey, red and orange colors can all be found throughout this specimen. The base has been cut flat to display on any flat surface without the use of a stand.

This formation of polychrome jasper is also known as "dragon scale" jasper, for the formation gives the specimen the appearance of having dragon scales.

Polychrome jasper (also known as desert jasper) is known as one of the rarest forms of jasper: it is only mined from a single location in Madagascar! The jasper deposits are typically in ribbon-like formations, and are almost always multicolored. The colors presented by this mineral are commonly earthy purples, tans, reds, and pinks, but teal polychrome jasper is one of the more sought after and desired colors. Some people consider it a form of picture jasper.
