Zlichovaspis With Crotalocephalina - Beautiful Preparation

This is a beautiful association of a Zlichovaspis rugosa and Crotalocephalina gibbus from the quarries near Atchana, Morocco. The Zlichovaspis has a bit of disarticulation on the body but is 2.9" long and the Crotalocephalina is a little over 2". The shell quality and preparation on both specimens is excellent, and the limestone has been aesthetically sculpted to present both fossils in a wonderful display. Less than 1% shell restoration.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
