Two Fossil Leaves (Celtis And Davidia) With Insect Damage - Montana

These are a 2.0" fossil leaf (Davidia) and a 2.0" hackberry (Celtis) leaf from the Fort Union Formation, Glendive, Montana. The hackberry shows evidence of insect feeding. It is likely that the damage is in part, from Leaf Cutter bees. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaf where some of it flaked onto the negative during collection.

This specimen includes an acrylic display stand.
