Two Fossil Echinoids (Hemiaster) Mounted On Shale - Texas

This is a plate containing two fossil sea urchins of the species Hemiaster texanus, collected from the Goodland Formation of Tarrant County, Texas. The largest urchin measures 1.15" long and the rock is 3.65 x 3.3". Both urchins appear to have been removed from the rock, cleaned and then remounted back to the rock.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Sea urchins are a type of echinoderm that are still living relatively unchanged today. They live at the bottom of soft ocean floors and have long spines protruding from their central bodies. They move along the bottom of the ocean using many small feet while feeding on various plant and animal matter.
