1.4" Ordovician Starfish (Petraster?) Fossil - Morocco
This is a 1.4" wide, Ordovician aged starfish of the genus Petraster. It comes from the Tioririne Formation near Blekus, Morocco. The specimen shows an amazing amount of detail and the natural, orange coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.
There are multiple repairs through the rock where it was broken during extraction. One of these cracks went through a ray and looks to have had some minor surface restoration. Another ray has a crack through it, though there is no indication of restoration here.
